TEIGNMOUTH COMMUNITY SCHOOL SENIORS PRINTMAKING AND AFRICAN DRUMMING

THF Trustee Annie Kirk visited this inspiring ‘double workshop day’ and writes:

“This wonderful arts day, supported by Helen Foundation funding and coordinated so expertly by Daisi alongside the school, meant a great deal to us. It took place at the very school attended by our three children, and on what would have been Helen’s 45th birthday. Twenty years on from her death, seeing the energy and enthusiasm of 120 Year 8 students made it especially moving.”

“Alongside a collagraph printmaking workshop led by the brilliant Simon Ripley of Double Elephant Printworks in Exeter, students explored African drumming, creating vibrant rhythms on djembe drums and other percussion instruments. Allan Kerr of Shumba Arts timed the sessions perfectly with the printmaking, resulting in a rich, balanced day of art and music for the entire year group.

Our thanks from THF and Daisi to the school’s art and music departments for such thoughtful planning throughout.”

Reflecting on the day, TCS Head of Art added:

“We have been lucky enough to welcome professional printmaker Simon Ripley, who worked with Year 8 to produce incredible collagraph prints inspired by African culture. Opportunities like this are too good to miss."
