What We Do

Arts workshops in schools

At the start of each academic year, The Helen Foundation trustees make an offer to every state-funded school in Teignbridge, Devon to subsidise arts-based workshops for Key Stages 2-5 led by professional artists. This offer comes via an emailed letter to schools sent out by the Devon-based arts charity Daisi, who handle the contact with schools on The Helen Foundation’s behalf.  Promoting arts and culture for young people in their communities, Daisi is an active and  highly respected Devon educational charity with which THF is proud to have links. Schools themselves decide what kind of artists they would like to engage and work with Daisi to shape workshops most suited to their needs and at times in the year most appropriate for the school.

The Helen Foundation Award
“Best Endeavour in the Arts” – School awards

The charity provides The Helen Foundation Award for “Best Endeavour in the Arts” free to every school in Teignbridge that would like one for primary and secondary aged young people in Key Stages 2-5.  Highly valued by its recipients, the Award is presented annually by each school following its own judgments as to which young person has consistently tried hardest to achieve their aims in a field of the arts. This may include include performing and visual arts, media arts, design arts or any combination of these.

The prize is a glass plaque mounted on a specially made hardwood base designed to take metal tags with the young person’s name engraved upon. This perpetual Award stays in the school and the young person is presented with, and keeps, a small replica along with a signed certificate.
