Late in the summer term, Christow School produced the children’s play called “Paws and Claws.” This is loosely based on West Side Story, only the characters in it are dogs and cats! Christow usually put on their summer productions at the school. However, this year they had much bigger ambitions. Knowing about the Ella Philp Fund that provides funding via THF for schools to mount musical theatre, they applied for a grant to help with the costs, including the hire of the Teign Valley Community Hall. This enabled them to offer their production to much bigger audiences. It was a triumph! We thoroughly enjoyed watching it, and it’s clear from the school feedback just how much it meant to the school. They said:

"The grant enabled us to go bigger and better than ever for our performance back in July. bringing the play to life through the use of costumes, backdrop, props and script, which the audience hugely enjoyed.  Mainly, however, the children involved now have a prominent, life-long memory of pulling off a brilliant show on stage. Christow School is and always will be a small village primary school, yet this opportunity that we could give our children is arguably better than most large primary schools could offer."

The children said afterwards:

“I loved doing the play because I love drama and the buzz and adrenaline of performing. It was so enjoyable and I will never forget it.”

“I learned that if you really go for it, it can be amazing!”

“It was the best production we’ve ever done!”
