Year 3 pupils enjoyed a full day’s workshop with Daisi-registered artist Anna Boland to explore and uncover the sculptural possibilities that clay has to offer using air-drying clay. The children learned pinching, moulding, binding, and how to use slip, coiling and slabs to be able to create sculptures of their choice. Anna started the day by guiding the children through various clay modelling techniques. After starting out with pinch pots and coil pots, which were used as the basis for some pufferfish, the children went on to make landscapes using relief sculpture before being given free rein to create their own designs. The youngsters were highly engaged and the activity sparked creativity and much excitement.
