SHALDON FESTIVAL AND APOLLO5

The Helen Foundation (THF) was delighted to be approached once again by the Shaldon Festivalcommittee to help support a special outreach from professional artists as part of the Shaldon Festival summer concert series. In its application for support funding to THF, the Festival Committee wrote:

“On Thursday 23rd June 2022 the Festival welcomes the renowned vocal quintet - Apollo5 - to Shaldon for our Thursday evening concert and school’s outreach workshop. The evening will be dedicated to our past chairman, the late Ro Ricketts, who was always a fan of vocal concerts."

We should be honoured and grateful if The Helen Foundation would sponsor the outreach programme. We believe it fits very well indeed with the THF mission. Apollo5 http://apollo5.co.uk/#home is an international, award winning British vocal quintet. Whether performing jazz, pop, or classical music, the members are known for their exceptional communication with audiences. As part of the VOCES8 Foundation (a vocal music education charity) https://voces8.foundation/ they are passionate about engaging young people through singing.

For the Thursday afternoon outreach workshop, the group will visit Teignmouth Community School Mill Lane to work with thirty Year 5 and 6 pupils. As well as exploring wide ranging vocal activities, the singers will work with the children to develop and practise a song which will be performed in the evening concert. The children will join Apollo5 on stage to perform the song. The Festival will offer discounted tickets (one family member per child) for the evening concert. It is confidently expected that the evening concert will sell out.”

THF trustees readily agreed to a grant of £500 towards the cost of the childShaldon Festival nd we look forward to seeing the children on the stage at this year’s Shaldon Festival!
