There was a wealth of THF-funded workshops in schools across Teignbridge last month. These included a wide range of workshops selected individually by schools, and numerous workshops in the two multi-school school projects we outlined last month.
MULTI-SCHOOL PROJECT No. 1 - FELTING AND 3-D WIRE SCULPTURE

Co-ordinated by Headteachers of the schools involved with the active support of Daisi, and largely funded by THF, this involves 10 primary schools exploring their own unique identity and how this can be expressed through art. Artist Jess Carvill led felt workshops and artist Iola Weir led wire sculpture workshops. The schools involved are: Haytor View, Abbotskerswell, Decoy, Bradley Barton, Kingskerswell, Chudleigh, Bishopsteignton, Highweek, Denbury, and Canada Hill. They will all come together later this month in a joint-schools exhibition. Here is a flavour of one of those workshops:
Decoy Primary
Following discussions with the pupils about their school, artist Iola Weir led workshops at Decoy Primary where pupils used wire to create sculptures that reflected their understanding of their school’s values and special qualities. The level of engagement was impressive. Even though breaktime came while we were visiting, a number of the youngsters were determined to continue with their sculptures as they were so involved in what they were doing. It will be wonderful to see the display of the work that was developed through the two workshops.
Pupil feedback:
I loved how we got so many types of wire and beads to choose from, and how Iola explained so well how to do it.
Thank you so much for an amazing day! I loved being able to let my imagination flow when making my cornflower.
I learned how to create fantastic detailed wire structures and how to stay calm even when things are tricky or don't go my way.

MULTI-SCHOOL PROJECT No. 2 - MUSIC AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Kate Benham of Action on Climate in Teignbridge conceived this ambitious project in conjunction with four schools and the music development group Sonopera. The schools are two secondary: Coombeshead Academy and Teign School; and two primary: Rydon and Kingsteignton. Working with Sonopera, they explored young people’s reaction to the environment and climate change. Each school created its own climate-change song, as well as rehearsing a song agreed by all four schools, and all the songs formed part of the final performance at Teign School. Report in the next THF newsletter.
Trustees visited a number of these workshops and these pictures are from workshops at Coombeshead College.
