MORETONHAMPSTEAD SCHOOL FELT BANNER

Now mounted in pride of place, Moretonhampstead Primary engaged Daisi artist Jess Carvill to lead a 2-day workshop, working with youngsters from Reception - Year 6 to create a felted wall hanging inspired by the school's local, natural environment. This ambitious project was highly successful and led to the children learning a lot of new skills as well as experiencing the excitement of seeing their collective work contributing to a very large mounted wall hanging. The children experienced all ‘hands-on’ aspects of the wet felting process, selecting coloured pieces of merino wool and then over-laying fibres to create subtle natural shades and tones that related to and echoed the surrounding moorland landscape. As ever with a project on this scale, there was a lot of excitement throughout this very hands-on experience - especially during the wetting and blending sessions. And what a great outcome! Really well done everyone.

Feedback from the young people:

“ All I want to say is, it was the most amazing thing I have done in school.”

“I had an absolute blast. It was slimetastic.”

“ You brought all of us fun, laughter and joy. Thank you!”
